Career and Program Options

At Ivey, in addition to your core and elective courses in HBA 1 and HBA 2, we provide a number of other career-expanding opportunities.

Career Readiness

Dual Degree Opportunities

Apply your first two years of study at Western to obtain two degrees, an HBA and one other from our growing list of dual degree opportunities.

CPA Accounting Designation

The Ivey HBA accounting stream is accredited by CPA Ontario.

Scholar's Electives

The Scholar's Electives Program allows students who have demonstrated outstanding academic potential to apply to Western for admission to both a primary, discipline-based program of study and the Scholar's Electives module. Students in the HBA Program who wish to complete the Scholar's Elective Program must be registered in a Dual Degree Program in order to fulfill all program requirements.

CFA Program Partner Preparation for CFA Exams

Ivey is approved as a Chartered Financial Analyst® Program partner school. Our curriculum contains much of the Candidate Body of Knowledge from the CFA® Program and is committed to covering CFA® Institute ethical and professional standards. It is also closely tied to professional practice and is well suited to prepare students for the CFA exams.

Sustainability Certificate

The Sustainability Certificate will allow HBAs to network with local and global leaders in responsible business, social enterprise and not-for-profit organizations, develop actionable skills for envisioning and implementing positive social change and environmental stewardship, experience the global dimensions of sustainability through consulting, internships and research assistantships, and set yourself apart from other Ivey HBA graduates by showing you are a forward-thinking champion of better business and better society.

Career Management Programming & Support

Ivey has the most advanced career management services of any business school in Canada. Career readiness is an integrated part of the HBA curriculum. As an Ivey HBA, you gain access to resources and support to help you explore diverse career options and develop a personalized career strategy that helps you to get to where you want to go.

Ivey Field Project

The Ivey Field Project (IFP) is a team-based field project. Students choose a company they'd like to work with to identify and develop or refine solutions to a problem or issue it is facing. As well, they have access to an Executive-in-Residence and faculty advisor as they research and analyze the problem, write a detailed and compelling report and present a plan of action to the client.

Summer Internships

Career Management helps to foster and maintain relationships with many of Ivey’s corporate partners who make internship opportunities available. Many HBA students choose to leverage these relationships by securing internships between HBA1 and HBA2, further helping them to refine their career goals long-term.

MBA Direct for HBA Graduates

As an HBA graduate, you have the opportunity to expand your career options by earning an Ivey MBA degree in only eight months and at a reduced cost compared to those coming to the program for the first time. Our MBA curriculum builds on your established foundation of business skills and leverages your career success.

International Opportunities

Pre-Ivey Opportunities

There are lots of opportunities for AEO and other prospective HBA students to participate in an international experience before coming to Ivey.

International Exchange Program (HBA2)

Spend your second term of HBA2 on an international exchange at one of the top schools in Asia, Europe or Latin America. Many of our HBA's take advantage of this opportunity. The exchange is reciprocal, so international students join Ivey for a term in the HBA2 year.

Service Learning in Africa

Learn about doing business in and with African nations. Spend the first 6 weeks of your summer after HBA1 teaching with Ivey cases, writing cases and researching businesses in African countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Ghana. Up to 40 HBA students will visit partner universities in African countries to teach a 3 week Business Decision Making with Cases course and to engage with small local businesses for case writing and research.

Student Leadership Opportunities

Ivey students plan and lead unique international challenges. Recent projects have taken students to Russia and Panama. The LEADER project, for example, sends teams of Ivey students to developing countries to teach business and entrepreneurship.

Master of Science in Management (Direct Entry Option)

Learn to think both broadly and deeply about complex international business issues and environments using Ivey's case study method in this 10-month program. Ivey is the exclusive Canadian partner in the internationally renowned CEMS alliance.

Entrepreneurial Opportunities

Ivey New Venture Project

The Ivey New Venture Project (NVP) is an entrepreneurial, team-based field project that takes students through the process of developing/refining an idea for a new venture, researching and analyzing that opportunity, writing a detailed and compelling Business Plan and creating/presenting a "Business Plan Pitch" to an external review panel.

Certificate in Entrepreneurship

This unique opportunity combines an entrepreneurial focus in program electives with a hands-on summer internship in an entrepreneurial organization.
